Inspired by Medieval illuminated lettering and Kirkham’s own rich heritage, the letter K was co-created by artist Maxine Lee-Mackie, working with schools and the local community.

Maxine and fellow artist Katie Halsall facilitated workshops with schools and the community, resulting in over 400 K designs being submitted. These designs provided Maxine with the inspiration needed to create the amazing K illustration that illuminates Kirkham’s rich heritage and can now be seen displayed in Kirkham town centre.

As well as the fish stones, windmill, and St Michael’s Church there are also references to RAF Kirkham, textile mills, Romans, Club Day and sail cloth manufacture, plus a few more.
